Fly on the Wall is video from my third birthday dinner at my family’s former home in Burbank, California. While singing happy birthday, the video was accidentally taped over with footage of a stained wall from later in the dinner. Conversations in several languages spanning a variety of topics serendipitously coincide. Dishes clatter, I sang tunes from Jewish day school, our former neighbor explained Catholicism to my mother in Spanish, and my uncle and father bantered. All audible dialogue from was captioned and attributed for clarity. The video was shown in its entirety on April 27th, exactly 19 years later, at the opening night of my undergraduate senior show.
